What Are Information Ecosystem Assessments?
The ways in which people consume, produce, contribute to, interact with, and behave around information are what makes information ecosystems dynamic and diverse.
An Information Ecosystem Assessment (IEA) is Internews’ unique, human-centered approach designed to understand the dynamics of transmission, production, and consumption of information in a given environment. Understanding the flow of information, its sources, channels, and the factors that affect it – intentionally or unintentionally– can help to empower citizens to make better-informed decisions, bridge divides, and help information providers better understand community needs and preferences, the dynamics of trust and better serve information vulnerable groups.
The insights gained from this research directly inform our approach and the findings are a key advocacy tool to encourage community-centred communication approaches among media and humanitarian partners in the contexts where we work .
